From the peanut gallery

A story in the Bangor Daily News reports that peanuts are now banned at Bangor High School. A new freshman student has severe allergies to peanuts and the school is advising all to wash up before school if they have been in contact with any peanut products. All peanut products are currently being removed from BHS. I certainly sympathize with this child and their family and while I applaud the administration's "commitment to providing a safe environment for all students" I'm not sure if depending on the effort of the school to control 1500+, willling but merely human, students, faculty and staff is the most efficient course of action. There are also the vast number of outside groups, visitors and events that use the corridors and rooms of BHS. I can't say I have any answers but there are people smarter than me who could probably take a whack at it. Not an envious position to be in. You can read the story here.
