Running of the nerds
The BHS XC season opens tomorrow and the FBC contingent will be out there running there hearts out, including my own #1 son. It's a great group plus they're all smart. Nerds are athletes too!! Good luck Hil, Julie, Jenny, Seth & Stephen!!

From the peanut gallery
A story in the Bangor Daily News reports that peanuts are now banned at Bangor High School. A new freshman student has severe allergies to peanuts and the school is advising all to wash up before school if they have been in contact with any peanut products. All peanut products are currently being removed from BHS. I certainly sympathize with this child and their family and while I applaud the administration's "commitment to providing a safe environment for all students" I'm not sure if depending on the effort of the school to control 1500+, willling but merely human, students, faculty and staff is the most efficient course of action. There are also the vast number of outside groups, visitors and events that use the corridors and rooms of BHS. I can't say I have any answers but there are people smarter than me who could probably take a whack at it. Not an envious position to be in. You can read the story here.
.. but here's my favorite group

They are not a professional choir nor do they play one on TV but they're my favorite group. Check out the FBC Youth Choir sometime.
American Food ...er..Folk Festival
So my #2 son and I took in the American Folk Festival here in Bangor last Sat. Heard some great music; had some great food. Following the chicken-on-a-stick we took in the Quebe Sisters. Great talent on the fiddles and lovely 3-part Andrew's sisters type harmony. Although after 5 songs the sisters weren't the only thing we were having a hard time telling apart. I like country but I used up all my twang quota for the day. So back for some dough boys and the next act. The polish accordion player was excellent. He got stuck in the small but cozy 2 rivers stage but put on an informative as well as entertaining show. Plus we were working on the strawberry banana smoothies by then. With some time and about $7 to kill we went for a round of funnel cake and lemonade before sitting down for the Dixie Hummingbirds. Nice gospel sound with a guy who could sing lower than the Penobscot river behind him. Good stuff. #2 and I trudged home after that. Maybe there's some food at home. Check out the official program:
